Use These Tools to Become a 'Good Stress' Manager
There's bad stress and good stress. In organizations, bad stress
occurs when strain comes too often, in too high a dose or at the
wrong times, such as when managers are powerless to act. In
poor-functioning organizations in which many people work, mid- and
lower-level managers tend to suffer the most stress because they are
surrounded by the impact of decisions they were powerless to
influence.
Their perceptive staff, in turn, can smell their bosses'
impotence, anxiety, uncertainty and futility. That can lead workers
at all levels to worry about their jobs, management effectiveness and
the company's well-being.
The symptoms of bad stress are easy to spot. They can include:
Employees unwilling to commit to deadlines.
Consistently missed targets.
Rare risk-taking.
A lack of volunteers for even high-profile opportunities. (more)
