ETD Product Support Bulletin
Electron transfer dissociation (ETD) in Thermo Scientific LTQ linear ion trap mass spectrometers takes less than 350 ms per experiment, which is fast enough to allow alternating CID and ETD scans on an LC timescale. The ETD activation method is complementary to CID, favoring multiply charged peptides and preserving labile post-translational modifications (PTMs). Recent studies indicate that a combined CID and ETD analysis approach results in increased sequence coverage, and subsequently increased confidence in resulting protein identifications.
