Healthcare Administrative Professionals: Making the Difference in Healthcare is a week set aside to honor the administrative professionals who ensure the seamless running of healthcare facilities. This year HCAP week is April 22 - 28.

This important job is so often a thankless one - but during National Healthcare Administrative Professionals Week you have the opportunity to publicly thank your staff for the critical role they play at your hospital.

Show your appreciation by presenting those individuals with a token of your gratitude. Visit http://jimcolemanltd.com/ap to view the wonderful HCAP Week items available.

When you purchase these products directly from Jim Coleman, Ltd. a portion of the proceeds supports the work of AHAP. These purchases make a real difference in helping AHAP develop stronger member benefits for you.

Scholarships and Leadership Awards

The AHAP Advisory Council is pleased to announce three conference scholarships (up to $1,500) each available for eligible AHAP members in 2007. The intent of the AHAP Scholarship Program is to give members an opportunity to attend the AHAP Annual Conference by defraying most conference expenses for those who would otherwise not be able to attend.

The Scholarship:
The AHAP Scholarship Program is funded solely through proceeds from the Annual AHAP Silent Auction.  The actual amount of money available for scholarships is evaluated annually by the Advisory Council and based on proceeds earned from the previous year's Annual Silent Auction.

The 2007 Awards:
One (1) Leadership Award* and two (2) Scholarship Awards will be given out in 2007.  All applicants must meet the eligibility criteria listed below in order to qualify. All awards will be dispersed though AHA Executive Offices and will not exceed $1,500 in allowable conference expenses.  In the event that no Leadership Awards are sought, then additional general scholarship will be awarded.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be an AHAP member in good standing.
  • Must not have attended an Annual Conference in two or more years.
  • A member may receive only one scholarship (inclusive of all categories) in their lifetime.
  • Current Advisory Council members are not eligible to participate.
  • *Leadership Award:  This award is available only to prior or current committee and Advisory Council Chairs and Members in recognition of their service to AHAP.

2007 Community Assistance Initiative

For the past several years the Advisory Council of AHAP has chosen an organization in the Annual Conference host city in need of our members' assistance. This year a task force was formed to provide and approve a list of charities which was then presented to AHAP's Advisory Council.

The Monarch School in San Diego, California has been chosen as the recipient of AHAP's 2007 Community Assistance Initiative. Unfortunately, it's a tough reality that not all kids are given the same opportunities. The Monarch School is a California not-for-profit corporation that works closely with the community and the San Diego County Office of Education to provide an accredited education to homeless and at risk kids while caring for their basic needs such as healthcare, food, clothing and personal hygiene.

A Monarch School representative as well as a past recipient of the school's services will be in attendance at the Membership Appreciation Dinner at the Annual Conference in San Diego on Friday evening, June 15, 2007. Over the next several months, additional information will be provided to all AHAP members on the type of donations that are needed.

Your continued support of this AHAP initiative is greatly appreciated!

Watch for the member meter

The Membership Development Committee has developed a Member Meter that is currently displayed on the web site and will be prominently featured at the annual conference in San Diego in June 2007. The purpose of the meter is to focus on membership growth, to encourage all AHAP members to become involved in recruitment of new members and to have a constant reminder of where we are in our efforts to reach our goal. We have a very challenging goal to reach of 1,000 members and, with assistance from the entire membership, that goal can and will be met! We need to spread the word about the benefits of AHAP membership. We have a great story to tell and the Membership Committee is soliciting your assistance in telling that story. Watch for the Member Meter and help us move it in an upward direction and over the top!! Currently we have 622 members!!
