iPOD Contest
EPT products appeal to a broad range of industries and cover an
unimaginable range of applications. In an effort to better support
your power transmission needs, we need your input on how you use our
products and how those products perform in your equipment. Click

Katrina Brings Out the Best in EPT's Paul Canik
One hot shower in two weeks and an occasional night of sleep-Paul
Canik, an EPT District Sales Manager for the southwest region, is
counting his blessings. Because his Springfield community is located
just north of New Orleans, they were spared Hurricane Katrina's
massive flooding but continue to work 24 hours a day digging out
after the storm's destruction.

EPT Comes Through with Hurricane Katrina Relief
Emerson has donated $400,000 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts
along the gulf coast. The company is working through the St. Louis
chapters of the American Red Cross and Salvation Army to contribute
$200,000 to each organization's relief activities to aid the victims
of this catastrophic storm. Employees are also contributing
independently to their relief organizations and charities of choice.

RPB Bearings - Solving the Heavy Duty Needs of Forest Products
Sawmill machinery such as debarkers, chippers, stackers, edgers and
trim saws process logs into finished lumber. This equipment is
subjected to extremely harsh environments and experiences heavy
loads, vibration, shock and contamination. Sawmill maintenance
personnel generally claim it's not bearing costs that are the
greatest concern in field replacement but rather the arduous task of
realigning bearings and lining up critical tolerances of the bases.

From the Field: Morse® CB Clutch Installation Reduces Downtime
Recently, Emerson Power Transmission helped reduce lubrication
related maintenance and downtime at a large, North American cement
plant. As is common in many cement plants, wind blows cement dust
everywhere, especially into active machine parts, so continual
lubrication is essential to keep equipment running. At this
particular cement plant, the maintenance supervisor was spending
extra time maintaining an oil-filled, one-way, backstopping clutch on
the head pulley of a large inclined conveyor. The clutch had a
fractured housing, causing it to leak oil and to require more
frequent lubrication maintenance than normal.

Keeping Oil In and Contaminants Out
Power transmission equipment is designed for rugged, heavy duty
applications but the concrete and aggregate industry is particularly
damaging. In a harsh environment filled with rock dust and other
airborne particles, contaminant penetration causes seal breakdown,
compromising lubrication and causing a need for machine maintenance.
In addition, aggregate applications are exposed to extreme
temperature differentials - from the blazing summer sun to frigid
cold - causing premature wear of components.
