Message from our Director of Embedded Product Management
CompactPCI® has proven to be a very resilient and adaptable technology and is increasingly being deployed in arenas far from its telecom roots. By continually evolving in ways that DON’T require forklift upgrades, this embedded computing standard, and particularly its network-centric, PICMG 2.16 variant, has grown to hold the largest share, by revenue, of all the formats available within the embedded computing space*.
CompactPCI/2.16 is now being deployed in commercial environments, on ships, at satellite communication sites, within cable head-ends, in manned and unmanned aircraft as well on land vehicles, because it offers designers just the right mix of processing power and system flexibility for many footprint and power consumption budgets. In addition, no other embedded standard offers the proven and growing range of suppliers and products that are available from CompactPCI today.
As these systems have evolved, more capabilities, like high-speed I/O and fault tolerance, have been added. So instead of stand-alone systems tied together by external cabling, contemporary designs feature rack mounted blades that increase density and reliability while lowering MTTR, time to market and cost of ownership, particularly when it comes to system upgrades and
maintenance.
Performance Technologies has an ongoing commitment to the CompactPCI market and continues to develop and evolve this robust architecture. A prime example of our leadership in this area can be found in our network attached storage and RAID systems that can now provide up to 2 terabytes (TB) of hot-swappable disk per storage blade. We invite you to download our latest white paper to learn what RAID-ready CompactPCI storage blades can do for you.
