SING FOR MY SUPPER - OUR TEENS GO OFF TO WORK By Erin Chianese
Kids are fascinated by workers from Day One. They exclaim delight at firemen, truck drivers, baseball players, musicians, writers, and, of course, dad when he gets home from work. Labor wheedles its way into our everyday language and we don't even realize the origins: Keep your nose to the grindstone (miller, implement sharpener), sell like hotcakes (fairground vendor), get down to brass tacks (upholsterer), pull strings (puppeteer), touch and go (sailor), the real McCoy (inventor), and get off the hook (fisherman).

Drive Thru History to the Foundations of America Review by Kyle Zook
Drive Thru History America is the fifth installment of the wacky historical series hosted by Dave Stotts and presented by National Day of Prayer. Fasten your seatbelts, Dave Stotts is a charismatic narrator who drives from one historical destination to the next while giving short, but pithy, explanations of the people who helped to form the foundations of Western culture.

Another Unschooling Success By Alison McKee
Do you know how flabbergasted I was to hear my 25 year old unschooled daughter tell me she can't do long multiplication? Her words hit with hurricane force. This kid, this unschooled young adult can't do long multiplication?! My immediate reaction was to get very down on myself.

Five Minutes To Better Reading Skills-By bonnie Terry, M.Ed. Review By Linda Foster
Webster's Dictionary defines learning as the act of "gaining knowledge or understanding of or skill in by study, instruction, or experience." Study is defined as the "application of the mental faculties to the acquisition of knowledge." These two concepts are so intertwined that it is difficult to separate them.

One Mother's Homeschool Talking Points By Krishyon Young
People often pepper me with Homeschool questions. In short order, rationalizations roll smoothly from their lips as to why they "cannot possibly" homeschool their children. It is expected that I will soothe their consciences with a sweet, "Well, perhaps it's not for everyone." One day I did not oblige.

Remembering Dr. Moore by Kyle Zook
Last month, July 13, 2007, saw the passing of homeschooling pioneer, Dr. Raymond S. Moore. Those who knew Dr. Moore give him great credit as being the "father of modern homeschooling."
As early as 1972, Dr. Moore was challenging the establishment, and his paper, "Better Late Than Early," published in Harper's, helped defeat a movement in California to make public schooling mandatory for children as early as 2 years and 9 months of age.

Relaxed Unit Studies By Dr. Mary Hood
Do the words "relaxed" and "unit studies" seem like an unlikely coupling? Many of the moms I've known who have based the majority of their instruction on unit studies have burned out after awhile, due to the heavy demands of this "hands-on approach", but it really doesn't have to turn out that way.

If you're trying to decide what to do when your children outnumber the seats in your SUV, Little Passenger Seats can be a lifesaver, adding third- and sometimes fourth-row seating without the need to purchase a new vehicle. Alphasmart NEO Word Processor by Renaissance Learning - Perfect for Children & Adults By Mary Leppert
Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, is all I can say. I love this product! Everywhere I go, I am constantly writing something or taking/making notes - books-to-read, story ideas, notes from workshops I attend, shopping lists, phone messages . . . and I am always interested in finding a tool that makes this writing work easier and more efficient, as well as being compatible with my larger computers.
