Two LMU Alumni Bring Home Olympic Medals
The scores are in and two Loyola Marymount University alumni won Olympic medals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Reid Priddy '00 helped the U.S. men's volleyball team win the gold medal over Brazil and Jeff Stevens '06 helped the U.S. baseball team earn a bronze medal. For more, click here.

Five Alums Awarded Fulbright Scholarships
Five former LMU students received Fulbright Scholarships this year, the most in one year. "The Fulbright program doesn't want just scholars — it wants people who are solid, all-around students. Mark Crone, managing partner of Crone Rozynko, LLP, will be the first speaker in this year's Hilton Distinguished Entrepreneur Lecture Series. Crone's presentation at 6 p.m. in the College of Business Administration, Hilton 100, will focus on the success of his grass-roots efforts in the economic opening of China's world business markets. Partners for Education: Verbum Dei H.S. Work-Study Program
Every week, four young men from Verbum Dei High School arrive at LMU to carry out office duties throughout campus. They update files, answer phones, copy reports and schedule meetings, among other tasks. The students are part of a corporate work-study program that subsidizes a portion of their tuition while they acquire work experience at LMU. Click here for more.

Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Visit LMU
LMU hosted the PeaceJam Global Call to Action Conference on Sept. 11-13, 2008. The conference attracted thousands of young people, from the United States and around the world to spend the weekend with Nobel Peace Prize laureates Desmond Tutu (1984), Rigoberta Menchú Tum (1992), Jody Williams (1997), Betty Williams (1977), Adolfo Pérez Esquivel (1980), Jose Ramos Horta (1996), and Shirin Ebadi (2003). LMU's Entrepreneurship Program Ranked in the Top 25
The undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship programs in the College of Business Administration were named among the nation's top 25 programs this year by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur's 6th Annual Top 50 Entrepreneurial Colleges. The undergraduate program is rated 17th and the graduate program 12th. For more, click here.

Seaver College Receives Grant from the National Science Foundation
The Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymount University has received a $552,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to establish a new scholarship program for as many as 12 Los Angeles students. The Descartes Scholars Program will begin in fall 2010 and will provide four-year, need-based scholarships of $10,000 per year. For more, click here.

Loyola Marymount University Receives Grant to Improve Special Education Training
Loyola Marymount University was one of two California schools to receive a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its special education teacher preparation program. The grant will assist the LMU School of Education to improve its program and ensure that graduates meet the more stringent teacher requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. LMU Photographer Wins First Place in Jesuit Photo Contest
The summer 2008 issue of Company, a quarterly magazine of the U.S. Jesuits, awarded top honors to two photographs taken by Glenn Cratty, university photographer at LMU. Each year, the magazine judges photo submissions that reflect Ignatian views from around the globe. For more, click here.

LMU Sweeps UCI for Tournament Championship
LMU (7-3) swept UC Irvine (4-6) by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19 to win the 2008 Four Points Sheraton LAX/LMU Volleyball Classic Championship on Saturday night in Burns Recreation Center. For more, click here.
