Message from Steve Wigent, Embedded Systems Product Manager
A barrier to implementing an all-IP network is what to do with the significant existing investments made in traditional architectures for telecommunications, aerospace and defense, and commercial networks. The challenge becomes how to best continue leveraging investments in existing infrastructures, while cost effectively implementing new revenue streams facilitated by contemporary packet-switched architectures.
This challenge has opened up development opportunities for gateways, softswitches, and media processors to bridge legacy communication systems to IP networks and implement new value-added services, or perhaps reduce operating costs by leased line expenses. The development of standardized hardware and open-source software has created a rich ecosystem of robust solutions that can drastically reduce overhead costs for OEMs and network providers alike.
Performance Technologies has been developing these enabling technologies for IP networks since its inception, and we continue a strong tradition of innovation with our latest offering of Media Blades. The new MB6224 provides scalability of up to 896 ports of VoIP, 24 T1/E1/J1 interfaces, and features support for a wide variety of wireless and wireline codecs. Our MB6108 is also available for smaller scale deployments.
With a large and growing offering of standards-based hardware, communications protocols, and Linux® operating system software, we remain committed to driving the evolution of the world's networks by designing the solutions and technologies you need today and tomorrow.
