LMU Alumna Backs Her Education Through First-Hand Experience
Vacation should be a time for rest and relaxation, not for finding a job. However, Erin Papworth '03, English major and business minor, did just that during an African safari in 2003. After getting into a political debate with a safari guide, Papworth realized that despite her interest in Africa she knew far too little about its reality. To her surprise, he offered her a job and lodging in exchange for her commitment to truly understanding the continent's problems. For more, click here.

Raymond Andrade '04 Has Experienced LMU from Two Very Distinct Perspectives
Raymond Andrade has experienced LMU from two very distinct perspectives: first as an undergraduate philosophy major, and now as a member of the Von der Ahe Library team. Recently, Andrade won the American Library Association's prestigious Spectrum Scholarship to aid his completion of a master's degree in library science. For more, click here.

2/10: Movie Premiere from the Guatemala Literacy Program
LMU's Center for Service and Action will show a documentary about the Railroad All Stars to raise money for the MuJER program, a non-profit organization in Guatemala started by LMU Professor Jodi Finkel, Ana Moraga '05 and Tania Torres '05. February's series features R. Chad Dreier '69, who will speak about "Ethics in Everyday Business." Dreier is the chairman, president and CEO of The Ryland Group, a Fortune 500 company. He is also the chairman of the Board of Trustees of LMU. Dreier, who has been a major contributor to LMU, established the R. Chad Dreier Chair in Accounting. LMU Professor receives grant to fund 'The Science of Women's Rights'
Loyola Marymount University (LMU) history professor Carla Bittel has been awarded a $99,279 grant to fund a project titled "The Science of Women's Rights." Bittel was awarded the grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Science and Society Program to study a central figure in the history of medicine. For more, click here.

Baseball: Songco Named to Wallace Award Watch List
LMU sophomore outfielder Angelo Songco was named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award Preseason Watch List in early January. Songco, the reigning WCC Freshman of the Year, 2008 preseason All-Conference selection and 2007 Freshman All-American, earned a spot on the prestigious list that will eventually determine the Player of the Year.
