Training Testimonials

Our training programs continue to be popular and well received. It is gratifying to see the number of organizations which either invite us back annually for in-house training or regularly send new employees to one of our public programs.

Take a look at what some of our training attendees have told us...

"I have found that the TreeAge training course is well structured and very practical. The case study provides a great hands-on leaning experience to all the participants. I would recommend this course to my colleagues."

"This course is well-organized, well-paced, and follows your thought processes into insightful thinking. It not only teaches you how to push buttons but how to give meaning to the numbers as well. It leaves a yearning for subsequent courses!"

Meet the TreeAge Software Trainers

It's not surprising that a major reason for the popularity of our training programs is the quality of the individuals conducting the training. Over the next few months we will introduce you to each of our excellent Course Leaders.

This month we would like to introduce you to our lead trainer in Europe - Andrew Palmer.

Dr. Andrew J. Palmer BmedSc, MB,BS.
Principal, CORE, Center for Outcomes Research, a unit of IMS

Andrew Palmer is Principal of CORE, Center for Outcomes Research based in Basel, Switzerland. He studied medicine at the University of Tasmania, and worked in general practice in Sydney, Australia. In 1994 he moved to Switzerland to become Medical Director of the Institute for Medical Informatics and Biostatistics, a position which he held until 2000.

In that year, Andrew co-founded CORE. In October 2005, CORE merged with IMS, with Andrew becoming a Principal in the newly formed Health Economics and Outcomes Research department of IMS Health.

Release of TreeAge Pro Viewer

The release of TreeAge Pro Viewer allows anyone to open, view and print models that were created in our TreeAge Pro software - including tree files, influence diagrams, graphs or Monte Carlo simulation outputs. Unlike our TreeAge Pro software, the Viewer does not perform any calculations or allow building of models.

This is an exciting addition to our TreeAge Pro family as the Viewer will allow our users to more easily share their work with others who do not have a license to our software. We think this will make collaboration, sharing and reviewing of TreeAge models much easier for our users.

The TreeAge Viewer is a free download. For more instructions on how to download the viewer please Click here.

Tech Tip - Aligning End Nodes & Node Comments

Tech Tip #1 [Aligning End Nodes and Other Nodes]

Perhaps you have a complex tree that you need to present to colleagues. Aligning nodes can help make a tree easier to follow.

It is possible to align all the endnodes (often terminal nodes) to the right of the tree with a simple change to the tree preferences. From the menu, select Edit>Preferences (or press F11). In the preferences dialog box, select the category "Tree Layout". Then check the box labeled "Align endnodes". TreeAge Pro will expand terminal nodes as necessary to vertically align all the payoffs.

At other times, you may want to expand other nodes to vertically align similar nodes within the tree. You can extend the width of a node using the Skip Generation option. First select the node, then select Display>Skip Generation from the menu. This will expand the node to twice its normal width within the tree. To reverse this, select Display>Unskip Generation from the menu.

For an illustration of these points, Click Here to run a brief flash demo that uses a tutorial model included with your software.

Tech Tip #2 [Note Boxes and Node Comments]

Sometimes it is helpful to add documentation within a tree either as a simple reminder or to illustrate a point to colleagues. Such documentation can be added using note boxes and node comments. Note boxes are more explicit in that they are visible at all times. Node comments remain behind the scene for reference only when needed.

Note boxes can add descriptive text anywhere in the tree. A note box can be bound to the document window or to a specific node. You can change the appearance of a note box by changing its fonts, borders, size, shape, and location.
Node comments are used to document the branches off a specific node, similar to cell comments in Excel. Select a node; then select Options>Node comment from the menu. A dialog box will open with a memo field for each of the node's branches. Once data is entered and the dialog box is closed, a small red flag will appear above the node, signifying that node comments are available. Clicking on the flag opens the node comments for review. The comments also appear in the properties window when that node is selected. Deleting the values in the properties window removes the node comments.
