When the MicroTCA™ specification was ratified almost two years ago, it brought with it the promise of scalability in a small form factor at a price point that would appeal to designers of cost-sensitive applications and systems.
Last month Performance Technologies officially unveiled an application-ready platform that meets and exceeds these goals - the MTC5070. It has been well received by our customer base far beyond our expectations, and is a complete application-ready platform when integrated with our line of AMC modules and Carrier Grade Linux distribution, NexusWare®.
Instead of the modular approach used in many current MicroTCA designs, which significantly drives up cost and space, we continued our tradition of integration and incorporated platform infrastructure, i.e., the MCH and power functionality, into the chassis. The result is a 1U, flexible, NEBS-ready, six-bay platform that can be purchased in volume for under $2,000 a unit.
Performance Technologies believes there is great value in MicroTCA as a COTS architecture for equipment manufacturers and application developers for years to come.
