Revolutionary Multi-touch Interface & Built-in Wi-Fi Wireless Networking

Apple has introduced the new iPod touch featuring Apple's revolutionary multi-touch user interface that enables users to find and enjoy all of their music, videos and more on its gorgeous widescreen display with just the touch of a finger. First introduced on iPhone, the multi-touch interface uses pioneering new software to present the perfect user interface for each application. The iPod touch also includes Wi-Fi wireless networking, the first on any iPod, and three amazing applications that use it—Safari, the most advanced browser on any mobile device, lets users wirelessly view web pages just as they look on their computer, and features Google Search or Yahoo! oneSearch; Apple's YouTube application lets users wirelessly watch over 10 million free videos from the Internet's most popular video website; and the new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store lets users wirelessly browse, preview and buy songs and albums from the most popular online music store in the world. The iPod touch is an unbelievable 8 mm thin. Scheduled to be available later this month, the 8GB version is $299 (US) and the 16GB model is $399 (US).

iPod touch requires a Mac with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later and iTunes 7.4; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 2) or later and iTunes 7.4. Internet access is required and a broadband connection is recommended, fees may apply. The iTunes Store is not available in all countries.

Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries for more information. Music capacity is based on four minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; photo capacity is based on iPod-viewable photos transferred from iTunes; and video capacity is based on H.264 1.5-Mbps video at 640-by-480 resolution.

Burn a CD Right From Your Finder Window

Burn a CD Right From Your Finder Window

If you've loaded a blank CD (or a DVD) into your Mac, you'll see it appear in the Sidebar of any open Finder window. You'll also notice a little Burn button appears to the right of the blank CD's name (which is "untitled CD" by default). So now, when you're ready to burn that disc (maybe you're using this disc to back up some files), you can simply press the tiny Burn button that appears right within the Sidebar. Burning doesn't get much more convenient than that.

The Bad Keyboard Shortcut Hall of Fame: New Folders

The Bad Keyboard Shortcut Hall of Fame: New Folders

For about 16 years the keyboard shortcut for creating a New Folder on a Macintosh was Command-N (and it made perfect sense, because we make so many new folders). Apparently, it was too perfect, because in Mac OS X Apple changed it. Now it's Shift-Command-N. Of all the changes in Mac OS X, this one really just doesn't make any sense to me. If you forget, and press the old Command-N, you get a new Finder window, which I find about as useful as fish might find a bicycle. If you want to make the Shift-Command-N keyboard shortcut at least marginally helpful, go under Finder and choose Preferences. In the Finder Prefs dialog, click on the General icon at the top and for New Finder Windows Open, choose Home instead of Computer. At least that way, if you press Command-N, it'll open your Home window, which you'll use often. If you prefer it to open something else, other choices include any mounted disk, your iDisk, your Documents folder, any other folder you choose; pretty much everything except a stinkin' new folder.
